Cute romantic-comedies with loads of fluff and drama is what click in our minds when we talk about Korean dramas and I don't blame you for that because the heartwarming side of K-dramas is more popular than the dark side.

Via this blog, I aim to let you know some of the masterpieces the South Korean drama industry has made in the thriller genre which are a must watch.

5: The Glory (2022)

Consisting of one season with an IMDB rating of 8.1, watching The Glory kept me at the edge. Every scene made me tensed on behalf of the protagonist who was severely bullied by her classmates. But the twist here is that years later, she seeks out for revenge meticulously.

I was in awe because of how well Song Hyeko (Moon Dongeun) as well as Lim Jiyeon (Park Yeonjin) played their roles. Definitely not for the faint hearted ones.

4. Save Me (2017)

Getting caught in the clutches of a cult is the last thing I’d want but unfortunately, Sangmi was dragged into a religious cult by her brainwashed parents. The cult, though seems like an organization working for the good of the people, hides deep, dark and scary secrets which its followers are oblivious to.

It’s exciting to watch how Sangmi’s old classmates try to rescue her from this hellhole and expose the underlying clandestine of the church while the cult’s leader is equally determined to defend his establishment.

3. Happiness (2021)

You know a show is good if it casts Park Hyungsik. I started Happiness hesitatingly upon my friend’s recommendation, but it turned out to be one of the best K-dramas I've watched. An infectious disease which turns a human into a zombie spreads among a residential area which compels the residents to quarantine themselves into their houses.

The worst part is that unlike your regular zombie, the infected people can turn themselves back into a normal human and hide in plain sight. Watch how the people deal with this tricky disease because trust is the biggest obstacle they need to battle against.

2. Mouse (2021)

Considered to be one of the best suspense thriller Korean dramas, Mouse makes you head scratch because of so many mysteries. Kind yet strong headed Jung Bareum, a police officer, joins hands with a detective, Ko Moochi, who together seek out to catch a psychopathic serial killer.

But the real plot twist arrives at the second half of the show which left my mouth agape because neither did I nor any other viewer expected this coming. Lee Seunggi carried out his role so brilliantly. He definitely takes the cake.

1. Strangers From Hell (2019)

When I tell you I was scared of Lee Dongwook (the last guy in the image above) for at least a week, believe me. Strangers From Hell falls on the psychological side of the thriller genre. It leaves a creepy, uneasy but a memorable imprint on the viewer.

Yoon Jongwoo has no other choice but to live in a rental room of the Eden Apartments due to lack of financial stability. He forces himself to adapt to the dark and unusual apartment with weird neighbors until strange things start occurring, leaving him paranoid and scared, mainly because of the abnormal residents.

The ending was definitely unexpected to me. Each and every actor was so phenomenal.

What other thriller K-dramas did you like?
